Florence is an amazing place to stay and there are tons to do. But, if you are looking to venture beyond this capital, we have got you covered. There are some amazing places to visit that are just a train ride away from Florence. Here are 10 Day Trips From Florence By Train for you to enjoy!

1. Day Trips From Florence By Train: Pisa

Pisa is on most traveler’s bucket lists due to its famous Leaning Tower, Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, and other remarkable sites. But the city itself, wide and divided by the Arno River, is worth a day trip on its own!  There are a good number of minor museums to check out, as well as gardens. The Palazzo Blu also holds monographic exhibitions of important modern artists (Chagall, Miro, and most recently Toulouse Lautrec). And do search out the last mural ever done by Keith Haring, called Tuttomondo.

You may be expected to walk on your trip. So, remember that if you are claustrophobic or afraid of heights climbing the Leaning Tower might not sound appealing to you, but it is definitely worth seeing!

3. Day Trips From Florence By Train: Livorno

This is one of the most perfect Day Trips From Florence By Train for those who desire both the coast and the city. It is not as historic or cultural as other Tuscan cities. However, it is one of Italy’s traditional seaside resort towns. It is the best place to relax and explore at your own pace, with something for everyone.

5. Day Trips From Florence By Train: Bologna

Although outside of Tuscany and a bit more pricey to reach (unless you want to take the very slow regional train), the fast train takes you to Bologna in just over half an hour. (be sure to get your tickets from Save A Train of course!) Bologna is one of the most underrated cities in Italy and is a very nice hotspot on our 10 Day Trips From Florence By Train. Despite its beautiful historic center, rich food culture, and lively yet relaxed atmosphere, it is often overlooked by tourists on the usual Venice Florence Rome route.

This is a shame as there are so many things to do in Bologna from climbing medieval towers to fun food tours, and it makes a great base for exploring other attractions in the region. We spent a week there in April and loved the mix of elegance and grittiness and, of course, all that delicious fresh pasta.

Greve is a perfect day trip from Florence to explore and stroll around its artisan shops, cafes, and coffee shops. If you are looking for a relaxed day, Greve may be your perfect choice.

8. Orvieto

Once founded by the Etruscans on the top of a steep hill made of tufa (volcanic ash stone). The city of Orvieto rises dramatically above the tuff cliffs that are completed by defensive walls built of the same stone called Tufa. The main attractions that can not go unseen are the Duomo and the Papal residence. This quaint town is perfect for wandering around and admiring its architecture.

9. Day Trips From Florence By Train: Arezzo

If you are in Florence because you love Renaissance art, hit up Arezzo, an hour or so away on the train, for a different perspective. Piero della Francesc, whose portraits of the Duke and Duchess of Urbino you can see in the Uffizi, painted the high chapel in this city church of San Francesco. The complex fresco cycle, representing the Story of the True Cross, is one of the most influential of the early Quattrocento, in which the artist worked out his maniacal ideas of space (based on one-point perspective), populated by serene figures with egg-shaped heads.

The rest of the town also offers enough for a solid half-day visit (or more). If you enjoy crowds, come on the first weekend of the month, when almost the whole city center becomes a gigantic antique market.
