Pirmasens ist eine unabhängige Stadt in Rheinland-Pfalz nahe der Grenze zu Frankreich. Es war berühmt für die Herstellung von Schuhen. Der umliegende Landkreis hieß von 1818 bis 1997 Landkreis Pirmasens und wurde dann in Südwestpfalz umbenannt. Pirmasens kann leicht mit Primasens verwechselt werden, was einen ersten Sinn in lateinisch abgeleiteten Sprachen bedeutet (der erste Sinn in Latein wäre "primus sensus").
