Castrop gehört seit dem 1. April 1926 zu Castrop-Rauxel, Nordrhein-Westfalen. Der Name kommt von trop / torp für Dorf und Chasto / kast für Schuppen. Die älteste Erwähnung stammt aus dem Jahr 834 als Villa Castrop. Während der Sächsischen Kriege benutzte Karl der Große die alten römischen Straßen. Zur Versorgung wurden Reichshöfe gebaut. In der Nähe dieser Reichshöfe wuchsen oft Siedlungen. Der Reichshof Castrop wurde 1611 an den von Bordelius übergeben.
