Düsseldorf (in englischen Quellen oft Düsseldorf; UK :, USA :, Deutsch: [ˈdʏsl̩dɔʁf]; Niederfränkisch und Ripuarisch: Düsseldörp ([ˈdʏsl̩dœɐ̯p]); archaisches Niederländisch: Düsseldorp) ist die Hauptstadt und zweitgrößte Stadt des bevölkerungsreichsten Deutschen Bundesland Nordrhein-Westfalen nach Köln und die siebtgrößte Stadt Deutschlands mit 617.280 Einwohnern. Am Zusammenfluss des Rheins und seines Nebenflusses Düssel liegt die Stadt im Zentrum der Metropolregion Rhein-Ruhr und Rheinland mit der Region Köln Bonn im Süden und der Ruhr im Norden. Der größte Teil der Stadt liegt am rechten Rheinufer (im Gegensatz zu Köln, dessen Stadtzentrum am linken Flussufer liegt). Die Stadt ist die größte im deutsch-niederfränkischen Dialektgebiet (eng verwandt mit Niederländisch).
