Metalurgia Casal war der größte portugiesische Motorradhersteller mit Sitz in Aveiro. Es wurde 1953 gegründet und seine ersten Produkte umfassten landwirtschaftliche Motoren. Der Wirtschaftsführer João Casal traf Anfang der 1960er Jahre auf einer Messe in Hannover mit Vertretern von Zündapp zusammen und begann dann mit dem Bau von Mopeds mit Zündapp-Motoren. Ab 1966 stellte er seinen eigenen Motor her, den Casal-Motor, eine modifizierte Kopie des Zündapp, der in vielen Varianten gebaut werden soll.
