Lünen ist eine Stadt in Nordrhein-Westfalen. Es liegt nördlich von Dortmund an beiden Ufern der Lippe. Es ist die größte Stadt des Bezirks Unna und Teil des Ruhrgebiets. Im Jahr 2009 wurde eine Biogasanlage gebaut, um die Stadt mit Strom zu versorgen. Lünen ist die erste Stadt der Welt, die Strom über öffentliche Versorgungsunternehmen erhält, der auf der Basis tierischer Abfälle erzeugt wird. Die Anlage produziert bis zu 6,6 MW und versorgt 26.000 Haushalte mit Wärme und Strom.
