Mechelen ], Französisch: Malines, traditioneller englischer Name: Mechlin) ist eine Stadt und Gemeinde in der Provinz Antwerpen in der flämischen Region Belgiens. Die Gemeinde umfasst die eigentliche Stadt Mechelen, einige Stadtteile am Stadtrand, die Weiler Nekkerspoel (angrenzend) und Battel (wenige Kilometer entfernt) sowie die Dörfer Walem, Heffen, Leest, Hombeek und Muizen. Der Dyle (niederländisch: Dijle) fließt durch die Stadt, daher wird er oft als Dijlestad ("Stadt am Fluss Dijle") bezeichnet. Mechelen liegt an der großen städtischen und industriellen Achse Brüssel - Antwerpen, etwa 25 km von jeder Stadt entfernt. Die Einwohner finden eine Anstellung in Mechelens südlichen Industrie- und nördlichen Bürogebäuden sowie in Büros oder Industriezweigen in der Nähe der Hauptstadt und des Flughafens Zaventem oder in Industrieanlagen in der Nähe des Antwerpener Seehafens.
