Lama (tibetisch: བླ་ མ་, Wylie: bla-ma; "Häuptling" oder "Hohepriester") ist ein Titel für einen Lehrer des Dharma im tibetischen Buddhismus. Der Name ähnelt dem Sanskrit-Begriff Guru und ist im Gebrauch ähnlich, aber nicht identisch mit dem westlichen Mönchsrang des Abtes. Vielleicht aufgrund von Missverständnissen früher westlicher Gelehrter, die versuchen, den tibetischen Buddhismus zu verstehen, wurde der Begriff Lama historisch fälschlicherweise allgemein auf tibetische Mönche angewendet.
