Varenna (Comasco, Lecchese: Varena) ist eine Gemeinde am Comer See in der Provinz Lecco in der italienischen Region Lombardei, etwa 60 Kilometer nördlich von Mailand und etwa 20 Kilometer nordwestlich von Lecco . Varenna wurde 769 von einheimischen Fischern gegründet und später mit der Gemeinde Mailand verbündet. 1126 wurde es von der rivalisierenden Gemeinde Como zerstört und empfing später die Flüchtlinge von der Isola Comacina, die das gleiche Schicksal erlebt hatten (1169). Varenna grenzt an folgende Gemeinden: Esino Lario, Lierna, Oliveto Lario, Perledo. Die wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten sind das Castello di Vezio, ein kleines Museum, das Lariosaurus (einem mit Schildkröten verwandten Mitteltrias-Meeresreptil) gewidmet ist, sowie die wunderschönen Gärten der Villa Monastero.
