Die römischen und romanischen Monumente von Arles wurden 1981 zum UNESCO-Weltkulturerbe erklärt. Der niederländische postimpressionistische Maler Vincent van Gogh lebte von 1888 bis 1889 in Arles und schuf während seiner Zeit dort über 300 Gemälde und Zeichnungen.
