Frankfurt (officially: Frankfurt am Main (German: [ˈfʁaŋkfʊʁt ʔam ˈmaɪn]; Hessian: Frangford am Maa; lit. Today, Braunschweig is the second-largest city in Lower Saxony and a major centre of scientific research and development.
