Nucetto is a comune in the Province of Cuneo in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 90 kilometres (56 mi) southeast of Turin and about 40 kilometres (25 mi) east of Cuneo. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 451 and an area of 7.6 square kilometres (2.9 sq mi).The municipality of Nucetto contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Villa, Nicolini, Caramelli, Livrato, Cadirei, Roatta, and Stra' veia. Santa Claus is generally depicted as a portly, jolly, white-bearded man—sometimes with spectacles—wearing a red coat with white fur collar and cuffs, white-fur-cuffed red trousers, red hat with white fur, and black leather belt and boots and carrying a bag full of gifts for children. This image became popular in the United States and Canada in the 19th century due to the significant influence of the 1823 poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" and caricaturist and political cartoonist Thomas Nast.
