Sarmato is a comune in the Province of Piacenza in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 160 kilometres (99 mi) northwest of Bologna and about 15 kilometres (9 mi) west of Piacenza. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,714 and an area of 27.0 square kilometres (10.4 sq mi). Sarmato borders the following municipalities: Borgonovo Val Tidone, Castel San Giovanni, Monticelli Pavese, Pieve Porto Morone, Rottofreno.

In 2018, 260,897 people resided in the Comune di Venezia, of whom around 55,000 live in the historical city of Venice (centro storico). Together with Padua and Treviso, the city is included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE), which is considered a statistical metropolitan area, with a total population of 2.6 million.The name is derived from the ancient Veneti people who inhabited the region by the 10th century BC.
