Es la capital administrativa de la provincia de Como. Su proximidad al lago de Como y a los Alpes ha convertido a Como en un destino turístico, y la ciudad contiene numerosas obras de arte, iglesias, jardines, museos, teatros, parques y palacios: el Duomo, sede de la Diócesis de Como; la basílica de Sant'Abbondio; la Villa Olmo; los jardines públicos con el Tempio Voltiano; el teatro sociale; el Broletto o el ayuntamiento medieval de la ciudad; y la Casa del Fascio del siglo XX.
