Bottrop es una ciudad en el centro oeste de Alemania, en el canal Rin-Herne, en Renania del Norte-Westfalia. Ubicado en la zona industrial del Ruhr, Bottrop linda con Essen, Oberhausen, Gladbeck y Dorsten. La ciudad había sido un centro ferroviario y minero de carbón y contiene fábricas que producen derivados de alquitrán de hulla, productos químicos, textiles y maquinaria.
