Chemnitz (allemand: [ˈkɛmnɪts], de 1953 à 1990: Karl-Marx-Stadt; haut et bas sorabe: Kamjenica; tchèque: Saská Kamenice) est la troisième plus grande ville de l'État fédéral allemand de Saxe après Leipzig et Dresde. C'est la 28e plus grande ville d'Allemagne ainsi que la quatrième plus grande ville de la région de l'ancienne Allemagne de l'Est après Berlin (Est), Leipzig et Dresde. Située dans le bassin des monts Métallifères, la ville est entourée par les monts Métallifères au sud et le pays de la colline saxonne centrale au nord. La ville se dresse sur la rivière Chemnitz (progression: Zwickauer Mulde → Mulde → Elbe → Mer du Nord), qui se forme au confluent des rivières Zwönitz et Würschnitz dans l'arrondissement d'Altchemnitz.
