Neuwied est une ville au nord de l'État allemand de Rhénanie-Palatinat, capitale du district de Neuwied. Neuwied se trouve sur la rive est du Rhin, à 12 km au nord-ouest de Coblence, sur la voie ferrée de Francfort-sur-le-Main à Cologne. La ville compte 13 districts administratifs de banlieue: Heimbach-Weis, Gladbach, Engers, Oberbieber, Niederbieber, Torney, Segendorf, Altwied, Block, Irlich, Feldkirchen, Heddesdorf et Rodenbach. Le plus grand est Heimbach-Weis, avec environ 8000 habitants. Fondé par le comte Frédéric de Wied en 1653 comme résidence du comté inférieur de Wied, Neuwied était situé près du village de Langendorf, détruit pendant la guerre de Trente Ans (1618-1648).
