La ville abrite également le Haut Commandement Alpini de l'armée italienne (COMALP) et certaines de ses unités de combat et de soutien.Dans la version 2014 du classement annuel de la qualité de vie dans les villes italiennes, Bolzano a été classé comme le meilleur.
