Braunschweig (prononciation allemande: [ˈbʁaʊnʃvaɪk]; bas allemand: Brunswiek [ˈbrɔˑnsviːk]), également appelée Brunswick () en anglais, est une ville de Basse-Saxe, en Allemagne, au nord des montagnes du Harz au point navigable le plus éloigné de la rivière Oker qui le relie à la mer du Nord via les fleuves Aller et Weser. En 2016, elle comptait 250 704 habitants. Centre de commerce puissant et influent dans l'Allemagne médiévale, Braunschweig a été membre de la Ligue hanséatique du 13e au 17e siècle. C'était la capitale de trois États successifs: la Principauté de Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1269–1432, 1754–1807 et 1813–1814), le duché de Brunswick (1814–1918) et l'État libre du Brunswick (1918– 1946). Aujourd'hui, Braunschweig est la deuxième plus grande ville de Basse-Saxe et un centre majeur de recherche et développement scientifique.
