Courtrai fait également partie de la métropole transfrontalière Lille-Courtrai-Tournai, située sur la Lys, à 42 km au sud-ouest de Gand et à 25 km au nord-est de Lille. Mouscron en Wallonie est juste au sud de Courtrai.
