Catane (Royaume-Uni:, États-Unis:, sicilienne et italienne: [kaˈtaːnja]) est la deuxième plus grande ville de Sicile après Palerme; il est situé sur la côte est face à la mer Ionienne. C'est la capitale de la ville métropolitaine de Catane, l'une des dix plus grandes villes d'Italie et la septième plus grande ville métropolitaine d'Italie. La Catane a été détruite par des tremblements de terre catastrophiques en 1169 et 1693, et par plusieurs éruptions volcaniques du Mont Etna voisin, dont la plus violente a eu lieu en 1669. La Catane a été fondée au 8ème siècle avant JC par les Chalcidiens.
