Interlaken (prononciation allemande: [ˈɪntərlakn̩]; lit .: entre les lacs) est une ville et municipalité suisse du district administratif d'Interlaken-Oberhasli dans le canton de Berne. C'est une destination touristique importante et bien connue dans la région des hautes terres bernoises des Alpes suisses, et la principale porte d'entrée des transports vers les montagnes et les lacs de cette région. La ville est située sur la terre alluviale plate appelée Bödeli entre deux lacs, Brienz à l'est et Thoune à l'ouest, et le long de la rivière Aare, qui coule entre eux. Les voies de transport à l'est et à l'ouest le long des lacs sont complétées par une route vers le sud dans les stations de montagne proches et les hautes montagnes, par exemple les célèbres hauts sommets alpins de l'Eiger, du Mönch et de la Jungfrau, en suivant la Lütschine. Interlaken est la ville centrale d'une petite agglomération du même nom de 23300 habitants.La langue officielle d'Interlaken est l'allemand (la variété suisse standard), mais la principale langue parlée est la variante locale du dialecte alémanique suisse allemand.

Chiasso est une municipalité dans le district de Mendrisio dans le canton du Tessin en Suisse. En tant que commune la plus au sud de la Suisse, Chiasso est située à la frontière avec l'Italie, en face de Ponte Chiasso (une Frazione de Côme, Italie). La municipalité de Chiasso comprend les villages de Boffalora, Pedrinate et Seseglio. En 2007, les trois maires de Chiasso, Vacallo et Morbio Inferiore ont décidé de s'unir en une seule commune. La nouvelle commune unie, qui compte environ 15 300 habitants sur un territoire de 9,2 km², a été rejetée par la population en novembre 2007.
