Cisternino est une commune de la province de Brindisi dans les Pouilles, sur la côte du sud-est de l'Italie, à environ 50 kilomètres (31 mi) au nord-ouest de la ville de Brindisi. Ses principales activités économiques sont le tourisme, la culture des olives et du raisin et l'élevage laitier. Cisternino se trouve dans une zone historique de la vallée d'Itria (en italien: Valle d'Itria), connue pour ses maisons coniques préhistoriques en pierre sèche appelées trulli, qui sont préservées sous les garanties de l'UNESCO en raison de leur importance culturelle, des murs en pierre sèche (muretti a secco ), et son sol fertile qui en fait le berceau de la région viticole du Salento. En 2014, Cisternino a été déclarée la ville de Cittaslow de l'année
