Forbach (for-BAHK, français: [fɔʁbak], allemand: [ˈfɔʁbax]; lorraine franconienne: Fuerboch) est une commune du département de la Moselle dans le nord-est de la région française du Grand Est. Il est situé à la frontière allemande à environ 15 minutes du centre de Sarrebruck, en Allemagne, avec lequel il constitue une agglomération transfrontalière, et fait partie de l'Eurodistrict Sarre-Moselle. Selon le recensement national de 2011, Forbach avait une population de 21 954 habitants, ce qui, y compris sa grande zone urbaine, en fait la plus grande ville de l'est de la Moselle. Avant le traité de Schengen, Forbach était un poste frontalier important où des procédures douanières étaient effectuées, tant pour la route que pour le transport ferroviaire et les voyages. Coblence (allemand: [ˈkoːblɛnts]; français: Coblence), orthographiée Coblence avant 1926, est une ville allemande située sur les deux rives du Rhin où elle est rejointe par la Moselle. Coblence a été établie comme poste militaire romain par Drusus vers 8 av. J.-C. Son nom provient du latin (ad) cōnfluentēs, qui signifie "(au) confluent" des deux fleuves. La confluence actuelle est aujourd'hui connue sous le nom de "coin allemand", symbole de l'unification de l'Allemagne qui présente une statue équestre de l'empereur Guillaume I.
