Salzgitter (prononciation allemande: [zalt͡sˈɡɪtɐ]; Eastphalian: Soltgitter) est une ville indépendante du sud-est de la Basse-Saxe, en Allemagne, située entre Hildesheim et Braunschweig. Avec Wolfsburg et Braunschweig, Salzgitter est l'un des sept Oberzentren de Basse-Saxe (à peu près équivalent à une zone métropolitaine). Avec 101079 habitants et 223,92 kilomètres carrés (86,46 milles carrés) (au 31 décembre 2015), sa superficie est la plus grande de Basse-Saxe et l'une des plus importantes d'Allemagne.
