Appenzell est un canton historique du nord-est de la Suisse et entièrement entouré par le canton de Saint-Gall. Locarno (italien: [loˈkarno], allemand: [loˈkarno]; tessinois: Locarn [luˈkɑːrn]; anciennement en allemand: Luggárus [luˈɡaːrʊs]) est une ville et une municipalité du sud de la Suisse dans le district de Locarno (et sa capitale), située sur la rive nord du lac Majeur à son extrémité nord-est dans le canton du Tessin, au pied sud des Alpes suisses. Elle a une population d'environ 16 000 (à proprement parler) et environ 56 000 pour l'agglomération du même nom, y compris Ascona en plus d'autres municipalités. La ville de Locarno est située dans la partie nord-est du delta de Maggia; de l'autre côté de la rivière se trouve la ville d'Ascona, dans la partie sud-ouest du delta. C'est la 74e plus grande ville de Suisse en termes de population et la troisième plus grande du canton du Tessin, après Lugano et Bellinzone. La langue officielle de Locarno est l'italien.
