Le magenta est une couleur qui est diversement définie comme rouge violacé, violet rougeâtre ou cramoisi mauve. Sur les roues chromatiques des modèles RVB (additif) et CMJ (soustractif), il est situé à mi-chemin entre le rouge et le bleu.
