Cotignola est une commune de la province de Ravenne dans la région italienne d'Émilie-Romagne, située à environ 50 kilomètres (31 mi) au sud-est de Bologne et à environ 20 kilomètres (12 mi) à l'ouest de Ravenne. Cotignola était le berceau du condottiero du 15ème siècle Muzio Attendolo, dont la famille Sforza) dirigea plus tard Milan, Pesaro et d'autres seigneuries en Italie. L'autre condottiero Alberico da Barbiano est né dans la frazione de Barbiano. Cotignola est limitrophe des communes suivantes: Bagnacavallo, Bagnara di Romagna, Faenza, Lugo, Solarolo.
