Licata (italien: [liˈkaːta], sicilien: [lɪˈkaːta]; grec ancien: Φιντίας, d'où latin: Phintias ou Plintis), anciennement également Alicata, est une ville et une commune située sur la côte sud de la Sicile, à l'embouchure du Salso Rivière (l'ancienne Himera), à mi-chemin entre Agrigente et Gela. Il s'agit d'un grand port maritime développé au début du XXe siècle, transportant du soufre, dont le raffinage a fait de Licata le plus grand centre d'exportation européen, et de l'asphalte, et parfois du fromage. À l'ouest de la ville portuaire, il y a une série de plages de poche séparées par des promontoires coupés par les vagues pouvant atteindre 40 mètres (130 pieds). (Amore 2002).
