Ravenne (rə-VEN-ə, italien: [raˈvenna], également localement [raˈvɛnna]; Romagnol: Ravèna) est la capitale de la province de Ravenne, dans la région Émilie-Romagne du nord de l'Italie. C'était la capitale de l'Empire romain d'Occident de 402 jusqu'à l'effondrement de cet empire en 476. Elle a ensuite servi de capitale du Royaume Ostrogothique jusqu'à ce qu'elle soit reconquise en 540 par l'Empire byzantin. Par la suite, la ville a formé le centre de l'exarchat byzantin de Ravenne jusqu'à l'invasion des Lombards en 751, après quoi elle est devenue le siège du Royaume des Lombards. Bien que ce soit une ville intérieure, Ravenne est reliée à la mer Adriatique par le canal Candiano.
