Camposanto est une commune de la province de Modène dans la région italienne d'Émilie-Romagne, située à environ 35 kilomètres (22 mi) au nord-ouest de Bologne et à environ 20 kilomètres (12 mi) au nord-est de Modène sur la rivière Panaro. Bien que le nom en italien signifie littéralement «champ de saint», ce qui signifie normalement «cimetière» en italien, son nom d'origine (latin), «Campus Sanctus», a probablement rendu hommage à la famille Ferrara de Santi au XIVe siècle, qui était propriétaire du terrain.
