Schwerin est la capitale et la deuxième plus grande ville de l'état allemand du nord-est de Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Elle a une population d'environ 100 000 habitants.Schwerin a été mentionnée pour la première fois en 1018 comme Wendenburg et a obtenu les droits de la ville en 1160 par Henri le Lion, c'est donc la plus ancienne ville de Mecklembourg-Poméranie. Il est mondialement connu pour son romantique palais Schwerin, situé sur une île du lac Schwerin. Le palais était l'une des principales résidences des ducs et grands-ducs de Mecklembourg jusqu'en 1918 et est le siège officiel du parlement de l'État depuis 1990. La ville possède également une vieille ville en grande partie intacte, grâce à des dommages mineurs pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
