Trèves (TREER, allemand: [tʁiːɐ̯]; luxembourgeois: Tréier prononcé [ˈtʀəɪ̯ɐ]), anciennement connu en anglais sous le nom de Treves (TREV; français: Trèves [tʁɛv]) et Triers (voir aussi les noms dans d'autres langues), est une ville sur les rives de la Moselle en Allemagne. Il se trouve dans une vallée entre de basses collines couvertes de vigne de grès rouge à l'ouest de l'État de Rhénanie-Palatinat, près de la frontière avec le Luxembourg et dans l'importante région viticole de la Moselle. Karl Marx, philosophe et fondateur de la théorie qui allait devenir marxisme, est né dans la ville en 1818. Fondé par les Celtes à la fin du IVe siècle avant JC sous le nom de Treuorum et conquis 300 ans plus tard par les Romains, qui l'ont rebaptisé Augusta Treverorum ("La ville d'Auguste parmi les Treveri"), Trèves a un bon titre pour être considérée comme la plus ancienne ville d'Allemagne. C'est également le siège le plus ancien au nord des Alpes d'un évêque.
