Dolo est une ville et comune de la province de Venise, Vénétie, Italie. Elle est reliée par la route provinciale SP26 et est l'une des villes de la Riviera del Brenta. La croissance de la ville de Dolo est due à la réduction progressive de la puissance maritime de Venise qui était historiquement orientée vers la Dalmatie, la mer Égée et le Moyen-Orient, survenue simultanément avec la chute de l'Empire byzantin, l'expansion islamique et la nouvelle ouverture de routes de navigation vers les Amériques. En conséquence, Venise a dû s'occuper de l'intérieur de ses nouveaux intérêts commerciaux. Au début du XVe siècle, des documents témoignent de l'existence d'un village qui, en se développant, a donné naissance à l'importance économique de Dolo, toujours liée à la présence de ses moulins à eau récoltant le blé des terres agricoles voisines puis broyant la farine et en embarquant certains dans des cargos tirés par des chevaux le long des rives du canal de la Brenta jusqu'à la lagune, d'où ils ont continué directement jusqu'à la colonie de l'île de Venise.
