Venise (VEN-iss; italien: Venezia [veˈnɛttsja]; vénitien: Venesia ou Venexia, prononcé [veˈnɛsja]) est une ville du nord-est de l'Italie et la capitale de la région de la Vénétie. Il est situé sur un groupe de 118 petites îles séparées par des canaux et reliées par plus de 400 ponts. Les îles sont situées dans la lagune vénitienne peu profonde, une baie fermée située entre les embouchures du Pô et du Piave (plus exactement entre la Brenta et le Sile). En 2018, 260 897 personnes résidaient dans la commune de Venise, dont environ 55 000 vivent dans la ville historique de Venise (centro storico). Avec Padoue et Trévise, la ville est incluse dans la zone métropolitaine de Padoue-Trévise-Venise (PATREVE), qui est considérée comme une zone métropolitaine statistique, avec une population totale de 2,6 millions d'habitants.Le nom est dérivé de l'ancien peuple vénitien qui habitait la région au 10ème siècle avant JC.
