Gallese est une commune italienne de la province de Viterbe, à 35 kilomètres de Viterbe. Elle fut prise par le duc Thrasimund II de Spolète en 737 ou 738, époque à laquelle elle était essentielle aux communications entre Rome et Ravenne et possédait une grande forteresse. Le pape Marinus I (882-884) était originaire de Gallese, tout comme le pape Romanus, qui était à la tête de l'Église catholique en 897.

Viareggio est une ville et une commune du nord de la Toscane, en Italie, sur la côte de la mer Tyrrhénienne. Avec une population de plus de 62 000 habitants, c'est la deuxième plus grande ville de la province de Lucques, après Lucques. Elle est connue comme une station balnéaire et abrite le célèbre carnaval de Viareggio (datant de 1873), et ses chars en papier mâché, qui (depuis 1925) défilent le long de la promenade connue sous le nom de "Passeggiata a mare" dans les semaines du Carnaval. Le symbole du carnaval de Viareggio et son masque officiel est Burlamacco, conçu et inventé par Uberto Bonetti en 1930. La ville remonte à la première moitié du XVIe siècle lorsqu'elle est devenue la seule porte d'accès à la mer pour la République de Lucques.
