Nyon [njɔ̃] is een gemeente in het district Nyon in het kanton Vaud in Zwitserland. Het ligt ongeveer 25 kilometer ten noordoosten van het stadscentrum van Genève en maakt sinds de jaren zeventig deel uit van het grootstedelijk gebied van Genève. Het ligt aan de oevers van het Meer van Genève en is de zetel van Nyon District. De stad heeft (vanaf december 2018) een bevolking van 21.198 en staat in de sportwereld bekend als het hoofdkantoor van de Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) en de European Club Association (ECA). Het is verbonden met de rest van Zwitserland via de Route Suisse, de snelweg A1 en de spoorlijnen van de Arc Lémanique.

Basel of Bazel (BAHL; Frans: Bâle [bɑl]; Italiaans: Basilea [baziˈlɛːa]; Reto-Romaans: Basilea [baziˈleːa]) is een stad in het noordwesten van Zwitserland aan de rivier de Rijn. Bazel is de op twee na dichtstbevolkte stad van Zwitserland (na Zürich en Genève) met ongeveer 180.000 inwoners. Bazel, waar de Zwitserse, Franse en Duitse grens samenkomen, heeft ook voorsteden in Frankrijk en Duitsland. Met ingang van 2016 was de Zwitserse agglomeratie Basel de op twee na grootste in Zwitserland, met een bevolking van 541.000 in 74 gemeenten in Zwitserland (gemeentelijke telling vanaf 2018). Het initiatief Trinational Eurodistrict Basel (TEB) van 62 gemeenten in de voorsteden, inclusief gemeenten in de buurlanden, telde in 2007 829.000 inwoners.
