Giengen is een voormalige vrije keizerlijke stad in het oosten van Baden-Württemberg, vlakbij de grens met Beieren in Zuid-Duitsland. Gepositioneerd op de route Neurenberg-Ulm-Konstanz, een van de belangrijkste feederroutes van de Compostella Trail, wordt Giengen elk jaar bezocht door een toenemend aantal wandelende pelgrims op weg naar Santiago de Compostella.
