Braunschweig (Duitse uitspraak: [ˈbʁaʊnʃvaɪk]; Laagduits: Brunswiek [ˈbrɔˑnsviːk]), ook wel Brunswick () genoemd in het Engels, is een stad in Nedersaksen, Duitsland, ten noorden van het Harzgebergte op het verste bevaarbare punt van de rivier de Oker verbindt het met de Noordzee via de Aller- en Weser-rivieren. In 2016 had het een bevolking van 250.704. Braunschweig, een krachtig en invloedrijk handelscentrum in het middeleeuwse Duitsland, was van de 13e tot de 17e eeuw lid van de Hanze. Het was de hoofdstad van drie opeenvolgende staten: het Vorstendom Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1269–1432, 1754–1807 en 1813–1814), het hertogdom Brunswick (1814–1918) en de Vrijstaat Brunswick (1918–) 1946). Tegenwoordig is Braunschweig de op één na grootste stad van Nedersaksen en een belangrijk centrum van wetenschappelijk onderzoek en ontwikkeling.
