Kettwig is de zuidelijkste gemeente van de stad Essen in West-Duitsland en was tot 1975 een stad op zich. Kettwig ligt aan de rivier de Ruhr, op een mediane hoogte van 53 meter boven zeeniveau. Het is de meest recentelijk opgenomen gemeente van Essen en ook de grootste in oppervlakte, met 15,3 km². Het behoort tot het stadsdeel Stadtbezirk IX Werden / Kettwig / Bredeney en heeft vanaf juni 2006 17.760 inwoners.
