Basel of Bazel (BAHL; Frans: Bâle [bɑl]; Italiaans: Basilea [baziˈlɛːa]; Reto-Romaans: Basilea [baziˈleːa]) is een stad in het noordwesten van Zwitserland aan de rivier de Rijn. Een brik is een zeilschip met twee vierkante getuigde masten. Tijdens het zeiltijdperk werden brigs gezien als snel en manoeuvreerbaar en werden ze gebruikt als zowel oorlogsschepen als koopvaardijschepen. Ze waren vooral populair in de 18e en vroege 19e eeuw.
