Een brik is een zeilschip met twee vierkante getuigde masten. Tijdens het zeiltijdperk werden brigs gezien als snel en manoeuvreerbaar en werden ze gebruikt als zowel oorlogsschepen als koopvaardijschepen. Ze waren vooral populair in de 18e en vroege 19e eeuw. Brigs raakten met de komst van het stoomschip buiten gebruik omdat ze een relatief grote bemanning nodig hadden voor hun kleine formaat en moeilijk in de wind konden zeilen.
