Keulen is de grootste stad van de dichtstbevolkte deelstaat van Duitsland, Noordrijn-Westfalen, en de op drie na dichtstbevolkte stad van Duitsland. Brugge (BROOZH, Frans: [bʁyʒ]; Vlaams: Brugge [ˈbrʏɣə]; Duits: Brügge [ˈbʁʏɡə]) is de hoofdstad en grootste stad van de provincie West-Vlaanderen in het Vlaamse Gewest van België, in het noordwesten van het land, en de zevende grootste stad van het land door de bevolking. De oppervlakte van de hele stad bedraagt meer dan 13.840 hectare (138,4 km2; 53,44 vierkante mijl), inclusief 1.075 hectare voor de kust, in Zeebrugge (van Brugge aan zee, wat "Brugge aan Zee" betekent). Het historische stadscentrum staat op de Werelderfgoedlijst van UNESCO. Het is ovaal van vorm en ongeveer 430 hectare groot.
