Castrop maakt sinds 1 april 1926 deel uit van Castrop-Rauxel, Noordrijn-Westfalen, Duitsland. De naam komt van trop / torp voor dorp (Duitse Dorf) en chasto / kast voor schuur. De oudste vermelding komt uit 834 als Villa Castrop. Tijdens de Saksische oorlogen gebruikte Karel de Grote de oude Romeinse straten. Voor levering werd Reichshöfe (enkelvoud Reichshof) gebouwd. Dichtbij deze Reichshöfe groeiden vaak nederzettingen. Het Reichshof Castrop werd in 1611 aan de von Bordelius geschonken.

Deggendorf is een stad in Beieren, de hoofdstad van het district Deggendorf. Het ligt op de linkeroever ongeveer in het midden tussen de Donau-steden Regensburg en Passau. De Donau vormt de natuurlijke grens van de stad in het zuiden. Richting het westen, noorden en oosten wordt de stad omringd door de uitlopers van het centrale Beierse Woud.
