Pirmasens is een onafhankelijke stad in Rijnland-Palts, Duitsland, vlakbij de grens met Frankrijk. Het stond bekend om de vervaardiging van schoenen. Dresden (, Duits: [ˈdʁeːsdn̩]; Boven- en Nedersorbisch: Drježdźany; Tsjechisch: Drážďany; Pools: Drezno) is de hoofdstad van de Duitse deelstaat Saksen en de tweede meest bevolkte stad, na Leipzig. Het is de 12e meest bevolkte stad van Duitsland, de op drie na grootste per gebied (na alleen Berlijn, Hamburg en Keulen) en de op twee na meest bevolkte stad in het gebied van het voormalige Oost-Duitsland, na alleen (Oost) Berlijn en Leipzig. Dresden grenst aan Freital, Pirna, Radebeul, Meissen en Coswig, en het stedelijke gebied heeft ongeveer 780.000 inwoners en is daarmee het grootste van Saksen. Dresden is na Hamburg de grootste stad aan de rivier de Elbe. Het grootste deel van de bevolking van Dresden woont in de Elbe-vallei, maar een groot, zij het zeer dunbevolkt gebied van de stad ten oosten van de Elbe ligt in het West-Lausitzer Heuvelland en het Hoogland (het meest westelijke deel van de Sudeten) en dus in Lausitz, terwijl veel stadsdelen ten westen van de Elbe liggen in het voorland van het Ertsgebergte en in de valleien van de rivieren die daar opstijgen en door Dresden stromen, waarvan de Weißeritz en de Lockwitzbach de langste zijn.
