Hagen (Duitse uitspraak: [ˈhaːɡn̩]) is de 41e grootste stad van Duitsland. De gemeente ligt in de deelstaat Noordrijn-Westfalen. Freiberg is een universiteits- en mijnstad in de deelstaat Saksen, Duitsland. Het is een zogenaamde Große Kreisstadt (grote provinciestad) en het administratieve centrum van de wijk Mittelsachsen. Het historische stadscentrum is onder monumentenzorg geplaatst en is een uitverkoren locatie voor het voorgestelde UNESCO-werelderfgoed dat bekend staat als de mijnstreek Ertsgebergte. Tot 1969 werd de stad ongeveer 800 jaar gedomineerd door de mijnbouw- en smeltindustrie. In de afgelopen decennia is het omgevormd tot een hoogtechnologische site op het gebied van de productie van halfgeleiders en zonnetechnologie, onderdeel van Silicon Saxony.
