Hildesheim [ˈhɪldəsˌhaɪ̯m] is een stad in Nedersaksen, Duitsland met 104.230 inwoners. Het ligt in het district Hildesheim, ongeveer 30 km (19 mijl) ten zuidoosten van Hannover aan de oevers van de Innerste-rivier, een kleine zijrivier van de Leine-rivier. De Heilige Roomse keizer Lodewijk de Vrome stichtte het bisdom Hildesheim in 815 en creëerde de eerste nederzetting met een kapel op de zogenaamde Domhügel. Hildesheim ligt aan autosnelweg 7 en ligt dus op het verbindingspunt van het noorden (Hamburg en daarbuiten) met Zuid-Europa. Met de kathedraal van Hildesheim en de Sint-Michielskerk werd Hildesheim in 1985 een Werelderfgoed van UNESCO.
