Aken ook wel bekend als Bad Aachen in het Frans als Aix-la-Chapelle, in het Italiaans als Aquisgrana, en in het Latijn als Aquæ Granni, is een kuuroord en grensstad in Noordrijn-Westfalen, Duitsland. Aken ontwikkelde zich van een Romeinse nederzetting en kuuroord en werd vervolgens de favoriete middeleeuwse keizerlijke residentie van Karel de Grote, en van 936 tot 1531 de plaats waar 31 Heilige Roomse keizers tot koningen van de Duitsers werden gekroond. Aken is de meest westelijke stad van Duitsland, gelegen nabij de grens met België en Nederland, 61 km (38 mijl) ten westen van Keulen in een voormalig mijnbouwgebied.
