Het grootste deel van de stad ligt op de rechteroever van de Rijn (in tegenstelling tot Keulen, waarvan het stadscentrum op de linkeroever van de rivier ligt). De stad is de grootste in het Duitse Laagfrankische dialectgebied (nauw verwant aan het Nederlands). Remagen is een stad in Duitsland in de deelstaat Rijnland-Palts, in het district Ahrweiler. Het is ongeveer een uur rijden van Keulen, net ten zuiden van Bonn, de voormalige West-Duitse hoofdstad. Het is gelegen op de linker (westelijke) oever van de rivier de Rijn. In de zomer vertrekt er elke 10–15 minuten een veerboot over de Rijn vanuit Remagen. Remagen heeft veel opmerkelijke en goed onderhouden gebouwen, kerken, kastelen en monumenten.
