Monticello was de primaire plantage van Thomas Jefferson, de derde president van de Verenigde Staten, die Monticello begon te ontwerpen nadat hij op 26-jarige leeftijd land had geërfd van zijn vader. Het huidige nikkel, een munt uit de Verenigde Staten, heeft op de achterkant een afbeelding van Monticello.
